Equal Opportunties Programme

Bield together with Trust and Hanover (Scotland) Housing Associations are working jointly on a joint equal opportunities programme. The aim is to promote fairness, equality and social inclusion for Scotland’s Black and Minority Ethnic communities, particularly, “hard to reach” groups such as older people. Its founding objectives are to:

  • Encourage take up of services by Black and Minority Ethnic older people
  • Develop policy and procedures which promote positive action and which reflect current legislation
  • Develop initiatives and promotional and marketing campaigns to raise awareness about the needs of Black and Minority Ethnic older people and communities
  • Encourage Black and Minority Ethnic communities to seek Employment with the Associations, and to work in partnership with other agencies to develop equal opportunity practices in employment
  • Train staff on equality issues

A recent initiative developed as part of the equal opportunities programme.is the ‘Happy to Translate’ logo. Participating public sector organisations will display the official logo on their literature and in reception areas to let non-English readers and speakers know they will provide quality translation and interpreting services.

Further information about the programme and the recent Happy to Translate initiave can be obtained from the web site at www.equalityscotland.com
