Carluke Housing Underway
Work on 17 new homes in Carluke began this month providing much needed modern housing for the local community.

The new homes are being constructed on the site of an outdated sheltered housing development owned by Bield. Demolition of the 1970’s development that fell short of modern design standards took place earlier this year. Land adjacent to the existing site was purchased from the Local Authority to give more room for the new homes.

The project will cost over £2 million and will provide 17 houses and flats. The new homes will provide a mixture of accommodation for older people and for families. One of the houses is being specially adapted to meet the needs of a particular wheelchair user. The new houses will be much more spacious, energy efficient and accessible than the old ones.

Communities Scotland are supporting the new development with a large proportion of the funding with Bield providing the balance.

Ashleigh (Scotland) Ltd is the main Contractor and it is envisaged the new homes will be ready for occupation early in 2009.
