Mum’s The Word For Renfrewshire Duo

A MOTHER and daughter from Renfrewshire say that living under the same roof has helped to forge an unbreakable bond.
Isa Curran, 81, and her daughter Sharon Curran, 51, have been living together at Bield’s Houston Court development for more than three years.
Isa first moved to the development in 2013 after her husband’s health deteriorated. Following in her mother’s footsteps in 2016, Sharon then set up home in the Johnstone complex to be closer to her family.
Isa, a former carer, said: “I moved into Houston Court back in 2016 after my husband lost his sight. Soon after, we decided that it would be best if Sharon moved in near us.
“She has struggled with her learning difficulties most of her life, which has affected her speech. Although, Sharon could talk for Scotland now!
“We love spending time together and being so close to each other means that we can go for lunches and to the shops without much hassle. We get a little bit competitive at the bingo, too.
“Having her here means that I can keep my eye on her and can easily pop in and say hello. We have a very special bond and I wouldn’t change us living together for the world.”
However, this is not the first time the mother-daughter duo have lived under the same roof, moving in together on three previous occasions.
The pair have been there for each other throughout many periods of their lives, including the birth of Sharon’s daughter, which is a memory they hold close to their hearts.
“Sharon said: “Growing up, I struggled with a few things but my mum was always on hand to support me and help me through difficult times.
“Mother’s Day is a special time as it means that I can treat one of my best friends. We plan on giving her a relaxing day and treat her to a nice dinner. She really is one in a million.”
Maria Brown, Peripatetic Scheme Manager with Bield, said: “It’s not very often that you have multiple family members living at one development. Isa and Sharon have such a close bond and do so much together.
“They really do cherish living here together and it just proves that no matter what age you are, you will always need your mum.”
Houston Court in Johnstone, Renfrewshire offers spacious properties ideal for people aged 50 and over who wish to retain their independence but want to leave the worries of repairs behind.
Bield has been providing high quality housing and related services in Scotland for more than 40 years, investing, changing and innovating its services and operations to address the needs of the next generation of older people.
