Retirees reminisce on timeless memories this Father’s Day

TENANTS at Bield developments have been taking a trip down memory lane and reflecting fondly on their years gone by this Father’s Day.

From day trips to the city to whiling away an afternoon with two of Hollywood’s comedy legends, Marion, a tenant at Bield’s Jamaica Court in Greenock, has shared some of her own happiest moments from her childhood with her beloved father, William.

Marion said, “My father’s name was William and he worked as a miner at the Lady Pit Red Mill Cottages West Lothian.

“He was very hard working. During his service he was promoted to a new role as a fireman in the pit. In those days, there was no baths to get wash after a shift and my father always arrived home covered in coal and stour.

“He worked mostly nightshift and some dayshifts where he was up at the crack of dawn.

“On a Saturday, my father would always take me on the bus to either Edinburgh or Bathgate Regal cinema. It was a great day out. Travelling through the towns and sitting chatting to people on route.

“My father would not let the wind blow on me he was such a kind and caring family man.

“When we went into the cinema, I was allowed a bag of sweets and I always picked sherbet lemons as we both liked them. Our favourite films were Laurel & Hardy and The Three Stooges. We both had the same sense of humour and we would sit and laugh all afternoon.

These were the best days of my childhood – fond memories.”

Jamaica Court in Greenock offers spacious properties ideal for people aged 60 and over who wish to retain their independence but want to leave the worries of repairs behind.
