Fire Safety

How do we reduce the risk of fire in our developments?

We provide fire safety advice, to all our tenants, in our Tenant Handbook.

Fire safety advice and information is displayed in all of our developments.

All of our homes and communal areas are fitted with smoke alarms and we test these every year.

Risk assessments are carried out to help us to remove and reduce any fire risks within our developments.

Routine safety checks, including fire alarm system testing, are carried out and recorded by Local Managers.

We encourage talks and visits from the local Fire and Rescue Service.

Stay Put Policy

If you live in one of our flatted retirement developments, unless the fire is in your own home, it is safer to stay put and await instructions from the emergency services if the fire alarm sounds.  In general, our properties are built to keep heat and smoke out for a maximum of one hour.  The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service are routinely called whenever the fire alarm goes off.

If you are in a communal area such as the lounge, guest room or laundry when the fire alarm sounds, or if the fire is in your own flat, then you should leave the building by the nearest exit, closing doors behind you.

Fire doors help to prevent the spread of smoke and fire by stopping oxygen from circulating.  Fire doors are clearly signed within our developments.  Please always keep fire doors closed unless a special closer, linked to our fire alarm, has been fitted.

The Local Manager or Area Manager will advise you of the specific fire safety procedures for your development.

Fire Systems Inspection

We want to keep you and your neighbours safe.  To do this, we need to carry out at least one smoke and heat detector test visit in your home each year.  This is a legal requirement for all landlords.

You’ll receive a letter from us 10 months after your last check confirming the date of your next visit.  Please make sure you are at home on the day of your smoke detector test.  If the date on your letter is not convenient for you, please let us know by calling us as soon as possible on 0141 270 7262 and we will arrange a new appointment.
