Same home. Updated rights.

Most things about your tenancy aren't changing.

You'll still have the same home, the same landlord and the same rights and responsibilities you've always had.

However, from 1 August 2026, the Scottish Government has updated the law for Scottish Secure Tenancies. We've updated our tenancy agreement to reflect these changes.

If you're already a Bield tenant, you don't need to sign anything.

What has changed?

While most tenants won't notice any day-to-day difference, the updated agreement includes four important changes.

🏠 Taking over a tenancy

The qualifying period for some people to take over a tenancy after someone dies has reduced from 12 months to 6 months.

❤️ Better protection from domestic abuse

The law now includes stronger protections to help people experiencing domestic abuse remain safely in their home wherever possible.

📧 New ways to receive legal notices

Some important tenancy notices can now be sent electronically where the legal requirements are met and you've agreed to receive them that way.

💧 Repairs, damp and mould

The tenancy agreement has been updated to reflect new legal requirements on repairs, damp and mould, with further changes coming later this year.

What does this mean for me?

For most existing tenants...

Nothing.

You don't need to sign a new tenancy agreement or do anything differently.

These changes simply make sure your tenancy agreement reflects the latest Scottish law.
